Solo Safari Travel Surges as Go2Africa Data Reveals Fastest-Growing Luxury Segment
Solo travellers have emerged as the fastest-growing demographic in luxury safari travel, according to new data published by Cape Town-based operator Go2Africa. The company's internal figures show solo travellers increased from 13.07 per cent of enquiries in 2024 to 15.42 per cent in 2025 - the only demographic to grow year-on-year - while global searches for "solo travel" rose 230 per cent over the past decade and reached a record 1.6 million searches in January 2026 alone. The US remains the dominant source market, accounting for over 50 per cent of Go2Africa's solo enquiries and recording 26.26 per cent year-on-year growth, while Australia saw a 119.80 per cent increase and the United Kingdom recorded 101.72 per cent growth between 2024 and 2025. The global solo travel market, valued at $95 billion in 2024, is projected to exceed $190 billion by 2030.
Tanzania, Kenya, and South Africa rank as the three most popular safari destinations for solo travellers, while Madagascar, Malawi, and Zambia are recording the sharpest year-on-year increases in interest, rising 380.2 per cent, 169.68 per cent, and 115.66 per cent respectively. Behavioural data points to solo travellers as the most research-driven and highest-spending demographic, with 81.18 per cent arriving with a clear destination in mind before booking and spending on average 42.8 per cent more per person than couples. The trend reflects a broader shift toward autonomous, experience-led travel, with "group solo travel" - where independent travellers join small organised groups - emerging as a notable sub-trend. For Africa's luxury safari sector, the data signals a significant and growing high-value market segment that operators are increasingly well-positioned to serve.
