Shaikha Al Nowais Nominated as First Female UN Tourism Secretary-General

Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais has been nominated as the next Secretary-General of UN Tourism, positioning her to become the first woman to lead the organisation in its 50-year history. Elected by the Council in line with protocol, her appointment is set to begin in January 2026, pending approval by the UN Tourism General Assembly.

An experienced Emirati business leader, Al Nowais brings over 16 years of expertise in the hospitality sector. As Corporate Vice President at Rotana Hotels, she has managed owner relations across the Middle East, Africa, Eastern Europe, and Turkey. She also chairs the Abu Dhabi Chamber's Tourism Working Group and serves on several boards, including the Abu Dhabi Businesswomen Council and Les Roches Hospitality Academy.
