Victoria's beloved Clock Tower, a 121-year-old tourist hotspot in Seychelles' capital, is poised for a complete restoration. The landmark, erected in 1903 during the British colonial era, has never undergone significant renovations until now.

The Seychelles National Institute for Culture, Heritage and the Arts (SNICHA) is spearheading the project, collaborating with Gillett and Johnston (Croydon) Ltd, the original British manufacturers. This partnership ensures the preservation of the clock tower's historical integrity, a crucial aspect of the islands' cultural heritage.

Gerald Coombes-Winyard, an expert from Gillett and Johnston, praised the clock's condition despite its age. The refurbishment plans include dismantling the clock tower section by section, with meticulous care to maintain its traditional character.

The project aims to restore the clock and chiming mechanism, improve timing accuracy, and replace worn internal materials. SNICHA will document the entire process, culminating in an exhibition to coincide with the unveiling of the refurbished clock tower.

This restoration secures the future of 'lorloz', as it's known in Creole, ensuring it remains a proud symbol of Victoria's history and a must-see attraction for visitors to Seychelles.
