President Wavel Ramkalawan of Seychelles held bilateral talks this week aiming to strengthen diplomatic relations with the Maldives and Marshall Islands. At the International Conference of Small Island Developing States, Ramkalawan met with Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu and Marshall Islands President Hilda Heine.

Discussions with Muizzu centered on enhancing cooperation in tourism, air connectivity, environmental protection, capacity building, maritime security and sharing best practices. Both leaders highlighted their nations' excellent relations and desire to address concerns impacting small island states.

With Heine, Ramkalawan agreed to further collaborate in areas of mutual interest like the climate crisis. The presidents aim to develop climate adaptation strategies, resilient policies, and locally-driven sustainable development initiatives to combat rising sea levels and extreme weather.

The meetings allow the island nations to reinforce existing partnerships and explore new avenues for cooperation. As fellow small island developing states, they seek global solidarity in confronting socioeconomic, political, security and environmental challenges.
