Seychelles and Bahamas establish diplomatic relations
Seychelles and The Bahamas have formalised diplomatic ties through a joint communiqué signed in Apia, Samoa, the Seychelles Department of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday.
The agreement was signed by Sylvestre Radegonde, Seychelles' Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, and Frederick A. Mitchell, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, during meetings preceding the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
The two island nations share common priorities, particularly in addressing climate change and advocating for small island developing states (SIDS) in international forums such as the Commonwealth and the United Nations.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said the new diplomatic relationship will enable increased bilateral cooperation in several areas, including people-centred development and environmental protection.
Both ministers signed the agreement while attending pre-CHOGM meetings in Samoa, marking a new chapter in relations between the two island nations.
