Seychelles advances national cruise tourism strategy

Seychelles has begun developing its first dedicated Cruise Tourism Strategy, following a cost-benefit analysis for 2026–2033 completed earlier this year. At a briefing at Botanical House on Tuesday 14 October, the Tourism Department and the UN Economic Commission for Africa’s Sub-Regional Office for Eastern Africa outlined the stakeholder consultation process to shape the plan.

UNECA is conducting consultations this week across Mahé (14, 15 and 20 October), La Digue (16 October) and Praslin (17 October). The strategy aims to support sustainable growth and stronger sector management in line with international best practice, ensuring cruise tourism – one of Seychelles’ three tourism pillars alongside land-based and yachting – continues to diversify the country’s offer while delivering balanced economic, social and environmental benefits. The project is a joint effort between the Tourism Department and UNECA, with technical and financial support from the latter.
