Serengeti Balloon Safaris launch ONE FLIGHT ONE TREE campaign – reflecting our continued commitment to long term sustainability goals
At Serengeti Balloon Safaris we take our sustainability goals seriously. It is a core part of our business and something we are passionate about delivering on. To support our efforts we launched a new campaign on World Forest Day in March 2026 . The “One Flight, One Tree" initiative is a comprehensive sustainability campaign designed to further offset our operational carbon footprint, contribute to local reforestation, and foster a new generation of environmental stewards. For every balloon flight taken, a native tree will be planted in the community of Robanda, adjacent to the Serengeti ecosystem. The project will be implemented in partnership with Greenmanjaro (experts in agroforestry and project management) and Robanda Secondary School (community integration and youth education).
As the pioneering balloon safari company in the Serengeti, we recognize our profound responsibility as custodians of this iconic landscape. While we already offset our direct emissions through carbon credits (via Carbon Tanzania), the "One Flight, One Tree" initiative creates a direct, visible, and educational link between our guest experience and positive environmental action. This project addresses:
- Carbon Sequestration: Actively removing CO₂ from the atmosphere.
- Ecosystem Restoration: Replenishing native flora to support local biodiversity.
- Community Empowerment: Involving and benefiting the local community directly.
- Youth Education: Integrating conservation into the school curriculum.
Since the project was launched we have already planted over 1000 native trees hitting half our annual target within one month of launching the campaign. [S1.1]We offset all of our carbon emissions each year and commit to reducing our emissions annually.
At Serengeti Balloon Safaris we believe that success is all about having the right team and the right partners in place and we are delighted that our One Flight One Tree initiative is supported by The Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS) through technical guidance on tree planting, species selection, and sustainable land restoration, ensuring alignment with national reforestation priorities. We are also supported by the inspiring Jane Goodall Institute, through its Roots & Shoots programme, by promoting environmental education, youth engagement, and community participation in tree planting and conservation[S2.1]
Sustainability manager at SBS, Roy Mushobozi, commented,
“The "One Flight, One Tree" initiative is more than just planting trees. It is a holistic program that embodies our commitment to the Serengeti. It transforms our guests into partners in conservation, educates the next generation, and leaves a lasting, positive impact on the environment we are so privileged to operate in. We are confident that this project will become a benchmark for sustainable tourism in Tanzania.”
