Serengeti Balloon Safaris Launch New Ballooning Destination in Ruaha From June 2023

Serengeti Balloon Safaris have always had a true love of safari and are passionate about sharing the wild places of Tanzania. Testament to their commitment to pioneering new developments in the ballooning industry, they are delighted to announce that they will be re-launching their signature balloon flights in Ruaha National Park from June 2023.

A balloon safari in Ruaha is a totally unique experience and one that can add an unforgettable highlight to any safari. Ruaha National Park is the largest park in Tanzania and yet receives fewer than 20,000 visitors a year as opposed to the Serengeti that receives in excess of 350,000 people. Small numbers of guests combined with a range of camps which are all boutique and personalised makes for a really exclusive and private safari experience. Hot air balloon flying in Ruaha differs greatly from that of the Serengeti in terms of landscape, wildlife and style of flight. The landscape of Ruaha is different to most East African parks in feel with its vast Ruaha river and sandbanks, towering baobab trees and soft miombo woodland. Here, due to specific weather conditions, balloons can often fly down the stunning Ruaha river and its sandbanks making for a breath-taking experience before climbing and gently changing direction. Famed for its incredible numbers of elephant, buffalo and big cats, a ballooning safari in Ruaha is very wildlife focused. John Corse MD of Serengeti Balloon Safaris commented,

“One of my most memorable ballooning experiences in my career was in Ruaha flying at about 300 feet above a palm thicket, we were privileged to enjoy a herd of over 30 elephants feeding in the cool morning air. Oblivious to us as we quietly flew overhead, their behaviour was uninterrupted and so we were able to enjoy this incredible scene so peacefully. Flying like this is over vegetation and wildlife is very typical of a Ruaha flight. From following the Ruaha river to its confluence with the Mwagusi river watching its inhabitants from above to wildlife encounters like this make Ruaha flights so incredibly special.  I am thrilled that we are restarting our operations in Ruaha so we can offer our guests similar magical experiences.”

A short 1h30min flight from the Serengeti or a 2h flight from Dar Es Salaam, Ruaha is an incredibly special safari destination. Balloon flights will be running daily for the dry season only from June- October.
