SANParks Launches SMME Incubation Programme to Boost Biodiversity Economy in Eastern Cape

Applications are now open for a new SMME Incubation Programme launched by the Greater Addo-Amathole Biodiversity Economy Node (GAABEN), aimed at developing small businesses in biodiversity-based sectors across the Eastern Cape. Led by South African National Parks (SANParks) and funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF 7), the initiative aligns with SANParks' Vision 2040 strategy to promote inclusive economic growth through conservation-linked development.

The 18-month programme, delivered by Indalo Inclusive South Africa, will support 20 enterprises in the wildlife, tourism, marine, forestry, and bioprospecting sectors via mentorship, training and provisional grant funding. Eligible businesses must operate within designated municipalities and commit to social and environmental impact. The launch coincides with the first Vision 2040 Indaba, taking place in Gqeberha from 3–5 September, bringing together stakeholders to drive inclusive, sustainable conservation goals.
