SANParks introduces enhanced safety measures following fatal Pafuri incident
SANParks is deploying additional rangers, monitoring equipment and enhanced surveillance technology to the Nxanatseni North Region of Kruger National Park following the deaths of two local tourists in the remote Pafuri section on 22 May 2026. According to SANParks, the incident is unprecedented in the park’s 100-year history, with the South African Police Service (SAPS) continuing to lead the ongoing murder investigation.
The park remains fully open and operational, with SANParks reaffirming its commitment to visitor safety while conservation and tourism activities continue across the reserve. The additional measures are intended to strengthen monitoring and operational oversight in the affected region while authorities continue investigations into the incident.
