RwandAir Launches Zanzibar and Mombasa Route Ahead of Holiday Season

RwandAir has announced a new route connecting Kigali to Zanzibar and Mombasa, set to launch on 1 December 2025. The service will operate four times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays—using a Boeing B737 aircraft. The new route marks RwandAir’s return to Mombasa after a six-year hiatus and introduces Zanzibar as a new destination in its network, expanding the airline’s presence to three Tanzanian cities and two in Kenya.

The move is part of RwandAir’s regional expansion strategy aimed at boosting East African connectivity and tourism. According to the airline’s CEO Yvonne Makolo, the addition strengthens Kigali’s position as a key regional hub. The schedule includes convenient connections for both leisure and business travellers, with outbound flights from Kigali looping through Zanzibar to Mombasa, and return flights following the same route in reverse.
