Rwanda's hospitality sector has seen substantial growth with hotel room numbers increasing to 21,232 in 2023 from 17,078 in 2020, according to the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda's 2024 Statistical Year Book. The expansion reflects Rwanda's growing status as a regional tourism and business hub, driven by increased international conferences and tourist arrivals, though industry experts note an uneven distribution of accommodation facilities across the country.

While Kigali and secondary cities boast the majority of hotel rooms, tourism professionals highlight significant gaps in rural areas and near major attractions such as Volcanoes National Park and Akagera National Park, where room prices can exceed $150 per night. Industry stakeholders, including the Private Sector Federation's Tourism Department, acknowledge the sector's progress while emphasising the need for more strategic investment in rural areas and continued workforce development to meet international standards.
