Rwanda Ratifies 12 Air Service Agreements to Support RwandAir Growth

Rwanda’s Chamber of Deputies has approved twelve air service agreements signed between 2022 and 2024 with countries across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas, aimed at boosting RwandAir’s international reach. Ratified partners include Guinea, Poland, Oman, Canada, France, and Zimbabwe, among others. Officials believe the deals will enhance air safety, reduce operational costs, and lay the legal groundwork for wider aviation connectivity.

Infrastructure Minister Jimmy Gasore noted that the agreements include “fifth freedom” rights, supporting flexibility in routing and technical stops. While operational launches will follow strategic planning, MPs stressed the importance of timely execution and cooperation from partner countries. RwandAir aims to double passenger numbers to 2.1 million by 2028/29 and expand destinations from 23 to 29, supported by new aircraft, partnerships, and improved infrastructure. The airline recently reported an 82% revenue increase in 2023, reflecting recovery from the COVID-19 downturn.
