Rwanda leads global sustainability with its historic plastic ban, ensuring a cleaner environment and attracting eco-conscious travelers with its stunning wildlife.

This African country has earned a global reputation for its cleanliness, largely due to its groundbreaking plastic ban, which was implemented in 2008.

Rwanda’s commitment to environmental preservation is so stringent that even tourists’ luggage is checked for plastic bags. Renowned as one of the cleanest nations worldwide, Rwanda has set an example in sustainable living by strictly controlling plastic waste. Since enforcing the plastic bag ban, the country has become a model for environmental responsibility. The ban has been so successful that travelers are required to have their luggage inspected for plastic bags upon arrival, with any found being confiscated.

Rwanda’s ongoing battle against pollution is part of a broader effort to foster sustainability. Every last Saturday of the month, the entire nation participates in Umuganda, a mandatory community service day where citizens gather to clean public spaces and contribute to infrastructure development.
