Rustic brilliance awaits in Mahale
Greystoke has always been a precious jewel beside the vast Lake Tanganyika and little has changed in that regard over the years. It remains the premier chimping experience in Africa. Remote, magical; our lost world in the west.
Life in the forest continues to evolve and we are delighted to share some camp updates that lift a Greystoke experience to another level of natural charm.
Here’s what we’ve done…
The shaggy mess area
The iconic mess remains in look and feel, nestled into the forest edge with a stunning view of the beach and lake. We’ve added additional seating areas for added comfort and communal living. It’s the perfect place to unwind and take in the picturesque surroundings.
A newly built wooden walkway has been cleverly constructed that leads to many delights at our refreshed headland bar; big smiles, ice cold cocktails and unforgettable sunsets views across the lake.
Rooms in the canopy
We now have a couple of elevated rooms designed and meticulously crafted in the lower canopy, each A-frame banda naturally blending into the tree line giving off Robinson Crusoe vibes.
Elevated in the trees, one room is a “chimp nest” experience in the forest canopy. From the front deck, you’ll enjoy views out to the lake and the lush treetops surrounding you. The spacious design includes a deeper veranda area to kick back with a good book on a lazy afternoon in camp.
The second room is just above ground level with a stretch of sand out front and is set back burrowed within the forest. It offers a lovely peaceful retreat for guests to immerse themselves into forest life.
