Rwanda-based NGO Red Rocks Initiative for Sustainable Development is calling on international partners to support its mission to safeguard the Virunga Massif, a critical transboundary ecosystem spanning Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Known for its exceptional biodiversity—including the endangered mountain gorilla—the region is also home to communities reliant on natural resources for their livelihoods.

Founded in 2017, Red Rocks Initiative leads the Virunga Massif Project, which promotes conservation through community-led programmes in eco-tourism, sustainable agriculture, and skills training. Key initiatives target women and youth, combining environmental protection with livelihood development. Through its cross-border work, the organisation aims to build long-term ecological and economic resilience across the Virunga landscape while fostering inclusive, grassroots-driven conservation.
