Qantas Launches Non-Stop Sydney–Cape Town Service from October 2027

Qantas has announced a new seasonal non-stop service between Sydney and Cape Town, marking the first direct air link between Australia and South Africa's Mother City. On sale from 6 Nov, flights will operate three times weekly on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft from 19 October 2027 through to 24 March 2028, with economy return fares starting from AUD$2,470. Flight QF89 will depart Sydney at 09:15, arriving in Cape Town at 14:40 - an approximate flight time of 14 hours 25 minutes.

The new route is expected to add nearly 30,000 seats between the two countries and builds on strong and growing demand, with more than 120,000 Australians visiting South Africa in 2025 and arrivals up 19 per cent year on year. Australia overtook Germany in June this year to become South Africa's third-largest overseas source market. The service complements Qantas' existing direct flights from Perth and Sydney to Johannesburg and coincides with the airline's largest fleet renewal in its history, with new 787-9 aircraft arriving in late 2027.
