Qantas Announces New International Route from Johannesburg to Perth
Sydney, Australia – Tuesday 6 May 2025
Qantas has today announced a new international route between South Africa and Australia, with direct flights from Johannesburg to Perth set to take off in December 2025.
Available to book now, the new flights will provide South Africans with direct access to Perth as well as seamless connections to popular destinations across Australia, such as Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide, through the airline’s extensive domestic network.
Customers will also have access to a new one-stop option to New Zealand following the airline’s announcement of a new direct service between Perth and Auckland also taking off from December.
Qantas has a proud history in South Africa, having operated flights between the two countries since 1952. The airline’s longstanding commitment to the market was recently reinforced with the introduction of its Airbus A380 between Sydney and Johannesburg, which nearly doubled capacity and reintroduced First Class for customers flying between the two countries.
Comments from Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace:
“We’re so excited to be launching a brand-new route between Johannesburg and Perth, unlocking more travel options for South Africans looking to explore Australia, reconnect with family and friends, or discover somewhere new.
“By connecting Johannesburg directly with Perth, we’re providing easier access to Western Australia as well as seamless connections to key cities across our Australian domestic network, including Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide.
“We have also today announced a direct flight between Perth and Auckland, which means customers travelling from Johannesburg can now reach New Zealand with just one stop. With the introduction of these new flights, Qantas will now operate daily between Australia and South Africa, offering even more choice and flexibility for travellers.”
