Proflight Zambia Expands Fleet to 13 Aircraft to Meet Growing Domestic and Tourism Demand
Proflight Zambia has grown its fleet to 13 aircraft following the acquisition of three BAE Jetstream 41 turboprops from Eastern Airways, increasing its Jetstream 41 fleet from four to seven. The 29-seat aircraft were ferried from North Lincolnshire in the UK to Lusaka by Proflight's own crew, having received Zambian regulatory approvals and 9J registrations before departure. The airline now operates seven BAE Jetstream 41s, five Bombardier CRJ-200 passenger jets and one Bombardier CRJ-100 parcel freighter. The expansion comes as Zambia targets 20% growth in domestic tourism in 2026.
The additional aircraft will allow Proflight to increase frequency and capacity across its domestic network, improve operational resilience during scheduled and unplanned maintenance, and create potential for new domestic and international routes in 2027. The fleet growth also has direct implications for South African travellers, as Proflight operates services between Johannesburg and Lusaka as well as Cape Town to both Lusaka and Livingstone, with onward connections to safari and leisure destinations including Mfuwe - gateway to South Luangwa National Park - and the Copperbelt. "The purchase of these aircraft will enable the airline to meet growing local demand and support our commitment to providing safe and reliable connectivity across Zambia," said Captain Josias Walubita, Proflight's director of government and industry affairs.
