Pemba Airport Expansion Project Breaks Ground in Zanzibar

The expansion and modernisation of Pemba Airport in Zanzibar has officially commenced, marking a significant infrastructure upgrade for the archipelago’s transport network. The project, led by Spanish firm Propav Infrastructure, will involve constructing a new passenger terminal, extending the runway to 2.4km, and improving the main access road.

With an estimated investment of US$263.3 million from Zanzibar’s Ministry of Infrastructure, the development is set for completion within three years. Once operational, the upgraded airport will enhance connectivity to international markets and triple its current domestic capacity to accommodate up to 330,000 passengers annually, supporting Zanzibar’s growing tourism sector.
