Peace Parks Foundation to Invest US$23 Million in Mozambican National Parks in 2026
The Peace Parks Foundation (PPF) has announced a US$23 million investment this year to support the development of four Mozambican national parks - Maputo, Banhine, Limpopo, and Zinave - as well as ecological connectivity areas within the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area. PPF Regional Manager for Southern Mozambique Bartolomeu Soto said the organisation is also pushing for progress on the review and approval of collaborative management regulations for the conservation area, with the goal of establishing an increasingly professional and sustainable administration.
A key element of the investment involves wildlife restocking efforts, with 418 animals - including impalas, zebras, and blue wildebeest - recently translocated from Maputo National Park to Banhine National Park in what marks the first such translocation between the two parks. The first 20 giraffes are also expected to be introduced into the conservation area later this year. The wildlife reintroduction programme is directly linked to ecotourism development, reinforcing the broader strategy of building viable, nature-based tourism economies across Mozambique's transfrontier conservation landscape.
