Over 600 kilograms of waste cleared from Mount Kilimanjaro
Tourism stakeholders, including guides and porters, have removed more than 600 kilograms of rubbish from Mount Kilimanjaro during a four-day clean-up coordinated by Zara Tanzania Adventures. The campaign targeted litter left by climbers and service providers – mainly food and beverage containers – to keep Africa’s highest peak clean and safe for visitors and the workforce.
Zara said the effort forms part of annual anti-pollution campaigns run with partners including the Mount Kilimanjaro Porters Society, TANAPA through KINAPA, and local NGOs, with 35 participants involved this year. Industry representatives urged manufacturers to support future drives and strengthen waste management across the value chain, while TANAPA praised the initiative as a model other parks could emulate.
