OR Tambo operations back to normal after weather disruptions
Air traffic operations at O.R. Tambo International Airport have returned to normal following Sunday’s disruptions, Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) have confirmed. While initial reports pointed to temporary staffing constraints at the air traffic control station, ATNS clarified that flight diversions were caused by severe thunderstorms that temporarily affected safe operations within ORTIA airspace.
ATNS said services are running as planned, with operations under close monitoring, and reiterated that safety remains its highest priority. The swift normalisation at South Africa’s busiest international gateway supports airline schedules and traveller confidence, with ATNS working closely with airlines and airport authorities and issuing updates as required.
