Ondo State Positions Itself as Emerging Tourism Hub in Nigeria
Ondo State is stepping up efforts to establish itself as a key destination in Nigeria’s tourism strategy, with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa outlining a series of investment incentives to attract tourism stakeholders. Speaking during the 2025 Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Association of Tour Operators (NATOP) in Akure, Aiyedatiwa highlighted ongoing infrastructure developments, improved air and road access, and a new pro-investment policy climate aimed at harnessing the state’s diverse tourism assets – from coastal areas and ancient hills, to cultural heritage and religious sites.
Access to the region is being enhanced by projects including a dual carriageway linking key cities and the Lagos-Calabar Highway, while three airlines already operate routes into Akure. The governor has encouraged private sector participation, particularly in hospitality development, positioning Ondo as a first-mover opportunity in Nigeria’s expanding domestic tourism economy.
