Ol Seki Hemingways Mara builds a new infinity swimming pool
As the season begins to come to an end and the rains start arriving in the Masai Mara, it’s time for us at Ol Seki Hemingways Mara to take a little break and start our annual maintenance projects. You’ll recall last year we invested significantly in the back of house operations of the camp including installing a new solar power farm to completely remove the camp from grid and electricity power. This has been a huge success and has been extremely well received by our guests. We also built a new kitchen and we are delighted to see the improvement in our cuisine which has resulted from the improved kitchen facility. This year we’re looking at the front of house and the guest experience and to that end, we’re extremely excited to publicise, for the first time, some detailed information about our new pool which we have been promising.
Those of you who know Ol Seki will agree that the views from the sunken deck overlooking the small watering hole and Koiyaki plains are some of the best in the Mara with the space offering an incredible vantage point for game viewing from the comfort of a safari chair with a G&T in hand. To capitalise on this magical Mara view, we’re increasing the area of the deck and building the pool into and around the large boulders which have been a common sun bathing spot for our friendly rock hyrax. The pool will have an infinity edge overlooking the watering hole and Plains and on the other side of the deck we’re adding a very comfortable fire pit with circular seating for those ever popular Mara sundowners.
The pool and surrounding deck will provide our guests a wonderful spot for R&R in between game drives and we can’t wait to show you the finished product. For now, we can share our design renderings to whet your appetite.
This is a significant undertaking in very challenging terrain and for this reason we’re closing camp a little earlier than planned to give ourselves ample time to complete this exciting project. In addition to the pool, we’re adding capacity to our solar farm to ensure the new pool runs entirely off grid, upgrading some of our staff accommodation and making sure our vehicles are in prime condition for when we re-open in June.
We are extremely confident that this new feature will add considerably to the overall experience of a safari at Ol Seki and we thank you, as ever, for your continued support of our fantastic camp.
