The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) is actively promoting its ‘One Tourist, One Tree’ campaign in the North Rift Tourism Circuit, underscoring the essential role of environmental conservation in tourism. KTB CEO June Jepkemei has highlighted that destinations with strong conservation practices have experienced significant growth in sustainable tourism. Speaking at a recent tree-planting event at Eldoret’s Wall of Fame, she emphasised Kenya's potential for global recognition in conservation through enhanced forest cover.

Jepkemei urged the hospitality sector to engage visitors in tree-planting activities and called on academic and private sector stakeholders to adopt sustainable tourism practices. “By planting trees, we not only offset our carbon footprint but also preserve our rich biodiversity for future generations,” she remarked.

The campaign aligns with the launch of the North Rift Circuit, which features attractions such as Kerio Valley and Lake Bogoria. Initially introduced in Kajulu Hills Forest during UN World Tourism Week, the initiative aims to increase Kenya’s tree cover to 30% by 2032. KTB’s efforts are part of the broader Tembea Kenya initiative, which promotes tourism across Kenya’s nine tourism circuits.
