Nomad Tanzania launches the Nomad Film Series
Nomad Tanzania has released The Map Makers of the Serengeti, a short film documentary following the guides and staff of its mobile Serengeti Safari Camp through the height of the wildebeest migration. The film is the first release from the Nomad Film Unit, Nomad Tanzania's internal documentary team, and launches the Nomad Series, a run of fly-on-the-wall films covering the people, places, projects and wildlife at the heart of what Nomad does.
Most safari-goers never see how a mobile camp actually works. The tents appear, the food arrives, the game drives happen. What they rarely see is everything else: the camp manager reading the migration and deciding when to move, the cook feeding a full crew in the middle of the bush, the logistics of a camp that packs up, moves and sets down again with the herds. The Map Makers of the Serengeti goes looking for exactly that story.
The film follows guide Ally Kea through the height of the migration season, out on the plains with his guest, watching the river crossings and the movement of the herds. Away from the game drives, camp manager Kanaeli and cook Daudi run the camp that moves alongside them.
"When we started Nomad in the nineties, we wanted to build something that would last. Not just the camps, but the culture, the knowledge, the way of doing things. Seeing Ally and Kanaeli and the team out there, doing what they do, and doing it this well. This is exactly what Nomad was meant to be," said Mark Houldsworth, Co-founder, Nomad Tanzania.
