Ngorongoro to Introduce Night Game Drives and Zip-Lining for Year-round Tourism
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) is set to diversify its tourism offerings with new products, including night game drives and zip-lining, to attract visitors year-round. These additions aim to boost revenue and appeal to both domestic and international tourists, reducing the reliance on high-season travel.
According to NCAA Tourism and Marketing Services Manager, Mariam Kobelo, the initiative will cater to a wider range of tourist interests, beyond traditional wildlife viewing. “Tourism is an experience, and we want to ensure it continues throughout the year,” Kobelo explained.
The NCAA has seen a significant rise in visitors, with numbers reaching 908,627 in the last financial year, up from 191,682 in 2020/21. This growth is attributed to President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s Royal Tour film, which helped revive tourism post-COVID-19.
The authority is currently studying optimal times and locations for night tourism activities to avoid disturbing wildlife. Additionally, efforts are underway to promote lesser-known sites, such as Endoro Waterfalls and its elephant caves, as ecotourism destinations.
