Claire Le Lay has been appointed as the new president of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA), taking the helm at a time of growing competition from regional destinations such as the Maldives and Thailand. With a background in luxury branding and tourism communications, Le Lay aims to reposition Mauritius through a stronger focus on authenticity and sustainability. Backed by Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam and Minister of Tourism Richard Duval, she has outlined a strategy prioritising high-value travellers, strategic partnerships, and targeted promotions to elevate Mauritius’s global appeal.

Under her leadership, MTPA will launch a consultation process with industry stakeholders to shape a tourism identity that aligns with market expectations while protecting the island’s cultural and environmental heritage. Le Lay’s extensive experience, including roles in luxury brands and tourism communications since relocating to Mauritius in 1993, positions her well to guide this transformation. By emphasising eco-tourism and exclusivity, her vision aims to ensure long-term sustainability and resilience in Mauritius’s tourism sector.
