We are delighted to introduce Basecamp Samburu, our second camp in Kalama Conservancy after Saruni Samburu, set to open in January 2025. This exciting new addition to our portfolio of camps and lodges is a celebration of our 15-year long-standing partnership with the Samburu people, reflecting a shared commitment to sustainable tourism that benefits local communities, wildlife, and the environment.

Basecamp Samburu will be located in a tranquil valley in Kalama Conservancy surrounded by the beauty of Samburu’s rugged landscape and stunning views of the iconic Mt. Ololokwe, a sacred mountain revered by the Samburu people. The camp is thoughtfully designed using locally sourced materials, blending seamlessly with the surrounding landscape and preserving its natural beauty. Inspired by the golden age of 1920s exploration, our under-canvas tented retreat provides modern comforts while maintaining an authentic safari atmosphere.

At the heart of this experience are our innovative star beds, a first in our portfolio positioned for optimal stargazing experiences and sweeping views of the Samburu wilderness. Guests can choose between a deluxe star bed featuring a jacuzzi for ultimate relaxation, or the standard star bed with a private dining area. Both options include full bathrooms below, accessed via enclosed stairs. The camp's exclusive and intimate atmosphere is enhanced by its limited number of tents, including a spacious family tent and four double tents. Each tent features an ensuite bathroom and a private terrace, the perfect space to unwind after a day of exploration.

Beyond its luxurious accommodations, Basecamp Samburu offers thrilling adventures. Set out on game drives with expert Samburu guides to spot the Samburu Special Five. Experience local traditions with community visits and participate in activities like the Warriors Academy or even embark on a nocturnal adventure with our unique scorpion safari.

On August 26, 2024, we celebrated the groundbreaking of Basecamp Samburu, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to the Samburu people and the land we cherish. By expanding our footprint in Kalama, we continue to build upon our promise of wildlife conservation, supporting local livelihoods, and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Samburu community

We’ll keep you updated on the progress of this extraordinary luxury camp.
