Namibia's tourism industry has shown remarkable resilience, with international tourist arrivals soaring by 87.4% in 2023, according to a recent statistical report. Environment, Forestry and Tourism Minister Pohamba Shifeta announced that the country welcomed 863,872 international visitors last year, up from 461,027 in 2022.

This significant growth brings Namibia closer to its pre-pandemic goal of 1.8 million annual visitors. Shifeta emphasised tourism's crucial role in the national economy, highlighting its potential for job creation and inclusive growth.

The report, developed through collaboration between various stakeholders, aims to provide valuable insights for policy development and strategic planning in the sector. Tourism Executive Director Teofilus Nghitila expressed hope that the findings would benefit decision-makers across government, business, and academia.

Minister Shifeta stated that the data would guide initiatives to enhance the competitiveness, sustainability, and inclusivity of Namibia's tourism industry. The government remains committed to fostering a robust tourism sector, recognising its importance in driving economic transformation.
