Namibia Travel Alert: Key Roads in Zambezi Region Impacted by Heavy Rains

The Namibian Roads Authority (RA) has temporarily closed District Road 3522, also known as the Namalubi–Kalumba road, in the Zambezi Region due to severe damage caused by heavy rains. With no timeline yet for reopening, this closure is expected to disrupt travel plans to and within the region. Alongside this, the RA has issued a caution for several other routes—DR3510 (Bukalo–Lusese road), DR3512 (Ikumwe–Lusese road), and DR3572 (Bukalo–Sifuha road)—which remain passable but are dangerously slippery, requiring slower speeds and increased vigilance from motorists.
These developments pose significant challenges for tourists and tourism operators reliant on road travel within the Zambezi Region. The RA recommends checking their website or contacting them directly for real-time updates. Travel agents are urged to prioritise client safety by rerouting itineraries where necessary and advising travellers of the risks. The prolonged wet conditions highlight the need for contingency planning, comprehensive travel insurance and close monitoring of evolving road conditions to minimise disruptions and ensure safe journeys. Further updates are awaited as repair efforts and weather conditions evolve.
