Namibia to Launch New National Airline Following Air Namibia Collapse
Namibia has announced plans to establish a new national airline, choosing to move forward with a fresh carrier rather than revive the defunct Air Namibia. Transport Minister Veikko Nekundi confirmed that preparations are already under way, with further updates on the launch timeline expected in the coming months.
The move follows the voluntary liquidation of Air Namibia in March 2021, which closed operations after accumulating decades of financial losses and receiving around $453 million in government bailouts. The new airline is expected to support Namibia’s connectivity and tourism goals without replicating past financial strains.
