Wildlife conservation in Zambia's Lower Zambezi National Park has traditionally been dominated by men. But a new all-female squad is bringing a fresh perspective to protecting threatened species.

Formed in 2021 by Conservation Lower Zambezi (CLZ), the Kufadza squad supports the Zambian government's anti-poaching and conservation efforts in the park. However, they also work with local communities in the surrounding game management areas - buffer zones where people subsistence farm.

It was the stark gender imbalance in existing conservation teams that initially prompted CLZ to create the groundbreaking women only Kufadza squad. Their presence is helping advance both conservation aims and gender equity in this vital wildlife area.
