Mauritius and Rwanda discuss collaboration on tourism training and air connectivity
Mauritius and Rwanda are set to strengthen their bilateral relations, focusing on air connectivity, financial cooperation, and tourism. The announcement followed a meeting between Mauritius' Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maneesh Gobin, and Rwanda's newly designated High Commissioner to Mauritius, Emmanuel Hategeka, on 17 September 2024.
During the discussions, both parties expressed satisfaction with the progress of cooperation between the two nations, highlighting key areas for future collaboration. The officials agreed to enhance financial sector ties and discussed opportunities for Rwandan professionals in the hospitality and tourism industry to receive training in Mauritius.
A significant focus of the talks was on improving air connectivity between Mauritius and Rwanda. Both sides emphasised that better flight links would boost tourism and create new business opportunities.
Minister Gobin praised Rwanda's rapid economic growth, acknowledging its reputation as a competitive and development-focused nation in Africa. He also sought Rwanda's support for Mauritius' candidate for the African Union Commission chairperson position, Anil Kumarsingh Gayan.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to further strengthening ties between the two countries.
