Maputo to host 15 cruise calls in 2026 – 16,000 visitors projected

The Port of Maputo expects 15 cruise ship calls this year, bringing close to 16,000 visitors to the Mozambican capital. Each call is being coordinated with partners including the National Tourism Institute and Maputo’s FEIMA market to stage on‑site fairs showcasing local handicrafts, gastronomy and culture – supporting small businesses, tour operators and wider city livelihoods.

Mozambique received at least nine cruise ships in 2024 with 4,492 tourists, of whom 2,069 disembarked to visit attractions and sample local cuisine. Despite post‑election unrest later that year, the Government’s 2025–2029 programme targets international tourism receipts of US$391.9 million (€361.3 million) and a 6% GDP contribution by 2029 – up from US$221.2 million (€203.9 million) and 4.02% in 2024 – underpinned by visa exemptions for 29 countries and plans to grow tourism employment from 14,603 to 22,115.
