Malawi Airlines Strengthens Regional Operations with Refurbished Boeing 737-700

Malawi Airlines has modernised its fleet with the arrival of a refurbished Boeing 737-700, which landed in Lilongwe on 16 September 2025. The 18-year-old aircraft, previously operated by RwandAir, replaces a 21-year-old 737-700 that was recently retired. The move aligns with the carrier’s strategy to improve operational efficiency and passenger experience on regional routes, particularly as competition intensifies across African skies.

With this addition, Malawi Airlines now operates two Boeing 737s—a 737-700 and a 737-800—alongside a Dash 8-400, serving key routes across southern and eastern Africa from its hubs in Lilongwe and Blantyre. The refreshed fleet is expected to enhance reliability, reduce maintenance downtime, and meet growing passenger expectations, positioning the airline to play a stronger role in regional connectivity and Malawi’s broader tourism and economic ambitions.
