Major Redevelopment of South Africa’s Carousel Casino Set to Drive Regional Tourism and Job Creation

A landmark redevelopment of the historic Carousel site in South Africa is underway, positioning the 500-hectare property as a large-scale, multi-use tourism and motorsport destination. Located at the convergence of North West, Limpopo, Gauteng, and Mpumalanga provinces, the project represents the largest private sector investment in the region in decades. Over the next three years, the venture is expected to generate 900 jobs while integrating tourism, hospitality, motorsport, conservation, and events infrastructure under a unified “Worlds Within a World” concept.

Spanning three phases through 2027, the project includes FIA-standard motorsport facilities, conference and exhibition spaces, eco-accommodation, and a conservation-focused theme park. Phase 1, currently in progress, focuses on MICE infrastructure, hotel upgrades and residential developments. Future phases will introduce motorsport-linked retail, light industrial zones, and nature-based tourism offerings. With capacity to host events for up to 20,000 attendees, Carousel is set to become a key catalyst for regional economic development and a significant new draw for both domestic and international tourism.
