Lufthansa adds Africa and Asia flights as Middle East conflict reshapes travel

Responding to increased demand for Asia and Africa, Lufthansa is redeploying capacity from 10 cancelled Middle Eastern destinations to these routes. The airline said long‑haul bookings to and from Asia and Africa have risen strongly since the latest Middle East escalation, and it is adding services – including to markets such as Singapore and Bangkok – that some Middle Eastern carriers currently cannot operate.

The schedule shift comes alongside strong 2025 results, with adjusted operating profit of €2bn and an operating margin of 4.9%, supported by cost management, fleet renewal and lower fuel bills. Lufthansa, 85% fuel‑hedged as of 31 December, plans to expand long‑haul capacity but warned of uncertainty into 2026 amid higher oil prices and geopolitical risk; it targets an 8% – 10% operating margin in 2028 – 2030 and expects about 4% capacity growth.
