Lolelunga Private Reserve - 2025: A year of firsts and new beginnings
Lolelunga Private Reserve, located 30 kilometers north-west of Kafue National Park in Zambia is thrilled to announce the birth of three healthy cheetah cubs - the first ever born on Zambia’s first fully fenced, private reserve.
It all started in August 2024 when working in collaboration with The Cheetah Metapopulation Initiative, five cheetahs, three females and two males, were selected from Gauteng and Limpopo and introduced into the reserve as part of Lolelunga Private Reserve's ongoing rewilding project. These cheetahs, whose lineage can be traced to numerous reserves across South Africa, reinforce Lolelunga’s vital role as both a sanctuary and breeding ground for this endangered species.
Ironically, literally a year later, Lolelunga Private Reserve welcomed its first guests to experience the wonders of a landscape rehabilitated and rewilded, allowing Mother Nature to regain control.
And shortly after, the cubs were delivered by one of the females to be nicknamed, Shanaya by Lolelunga’s Game Rangers. These cubs are her first litter, as she embraces motherhood with pride and remarkable care. The reserve staff equally share this pride and, together with the monitoring and anti-poaching units, are dedicated to ensuring the cubs’ safety and well-being.
This addition holds special significance given that Zambia’s wild cheetah population is now fewer than 100, highlighting the reserve’s commitment to conservation through breeding and protection.
The arrival of the three cubs marks a hopeful new chapter for Zambia’s cheetah population and underscores Lolelunga Private Reserve’s success in creating a secure breeding environment.

How To Get To Lolelunga Private Reserve:
Lolelunga Private Reserve is a privately owned property covering a total of 30,000 hectares. It is located in the north-western part of Zambia, in the Kasempa District, 30 kilometers north-west of the Kafue National Park.
International Travel:
Kenneth Kaunda International Airport is connected to the rest of the world via regular, direct flights to Dubai, Doha, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Harare, Livingstone and Lilongwe.
Domestic Charter Flights & Arrival At Lolelunga Private Reserve:
With scheduled departures from Lusaka International on a Wednesday & Sunday, guests will be flown by private charter into Lolelunga Private Reserve (+/-1 hour). Lusaka-Lolelunga-Lusaka return. Other pick up points such as Livingstone are available upon request. A maximum of a Grand caravan (+/-10 guests) can land at Lolelunga’s 1.1 kilometer gravel runway.
Upon landing, Lolelunga staff will be waiting to pick up guests & transfer to the lodge, a mere 5 minute drive away.
Best Time To Visit Lolelunga Private Reserve:
The months from May to November present the most appealing time to visit Lolelunga, as the weather is typically dry, with a pleasant temperature and less humidity.
