LIFT applies to launch Durban – Mauritius flights

LIFT has applied to South Africa’s International Air Services Council to operate three weekly flights between Durban and Mauritius, which would mark the airline’s first international service if approved. The carrier currently flies domestically on Johannesburg – Cape Town, Johannesburg – Durban and Cape Town – Durban routes, and has not disclosed launch dates or aircraft plans while the application is pending.

The proposed route responds to growing demand for Mauritius and would strengthen KwaZulu‑Natal’s limited long‑haul connectivity. The island destination is presently served by Air Mauritius, South African Airways and seasonal FlySafair. Industry watchers say approval could boost regional tourism flows and diversify lift from Durban, aligning with LIFT’s measured expansion strategy since its 2020 launch.
