Lapalala Wilderness Recognised as a Dark Sky Park

We are extremely proud to announce that Lapalala Wilderness Reserve has been officially recognised as the first Dark Sky Park in South Africa.

Lapalala Wilderness is renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity — and now, for its commitment to protecting one of nature’s greatest wonders: the night sky. Through years of conservation work, sustainable practices, and the careful stewardship of light, Lapalala has achieved this remarkable designation.

Our two properties, Noka Camp and Melote House, are the commercial lodges within the 48,000-hectare reserve. Lapalala is a sanctuary for some of Africa’s most iconic and threatened species, including critically endangered black rhinoceros, white rhinoceros, African wild dog, and pangolin, alongside lions, leopards, cheetahs, roan antelope, and many others.

Guests can experience pristine stargazing, game drives, walking safaris, night drives, boat safaris, conservation and veterinary activities, and ancient rock art.
