Lanseria Airport Launches Automated Boarding Gates
Lanseria International Airport has launched "Tap and Fly," a new automated boarding gate system for domestic passengers. The system streamlines boarding by enabling passengers to scan their boarding passes or QR codes at the gate after completing standard check-in and ID verification procedures.
Developed in partnership with FlySafair, the system is intended to decrease boarding times without compromising Lanseria's focus on personalised customer service. This initiative represents the first phase of a broader "Smart airport" strategy, envisioned by Rampa Rammopo, the CEO of Lanseria International Airport. Future plans include biometric authentication and self-service bag drop facilities.
The new process will not result in job losses; existing staff will be redeployed to enhance the passenger experience through increased assistance and customer service. Automated security gates using digital permits and boarding passes based on security clearance are also being installed for staff, crew, and permit holders.
Coinciding with Lanseria's 50th anniversary, this technological advancement includes detailed passenger information through the airport's website and in-terminal screens to ensure a smooth transition. TAV Technologies Automated Passenger Gate Systems have been installed and tested in domestic terminals, with plans to extend automation to restricted access points for authorised personnel.
