KwaZulu-Natal Predicts Winter Tourism Surge
KwaZulu-Natal is poised for a significant increase in winter tourism this July, driven by its mild climate, holiday timing, and a packed calendar of cultural and entertainment events. The KwaZulu-Natal Tourism and Film Authority anticipates a 12–15% rise in domestic arrivals compared to 2024, contributing an estimated R500 million in direct tourism spend. Flagship attractions include the Hollywoodbets Durban July on 5 July, expected to draw over 55,000 attendees, alongside the Durban International Film Festival, Durban FilmMart and Simon Mabhunu Sabela Awards. These events are positioning the province as a hub for both visitors and the film industry.
Key regions across the province are reporting increased visitor interest, with strong booking activity noted in the North Coast and Drakensberg. The South Coast’s Sardine Run and growing adventure tourism offerings have further boosted arrivals. Local tourism partners, including Enterprise iLembe and South Coast Tourism, cite a resurgence in demand from domestic markets, with signs of international curiosity returning. With combined attractions ranging from fashion and film to natural spectacles and cultural festivals, KwaZulu-Natal is on track for one of its most active winter seasons in recent years.
