Kruger enters prime safari season as recovery continues after major floods
South Africa’s Kruger National Park is entering its peak safari season as the reserve continues recovering from the severe floods that affected parts of the park earlier in 2026. Cooler winter conditions and thinning vegetation during June traditionally create some of the best wildlife viewing opportunities of the year, with animals gathering around limited water sources and sightings becoming more frequent.
While flood damage earlier this year impacted roads, bridges and several camps, much of the park is now operational following ongoing restoration efforts by SANParks. The recovery has also transformed sections of the landscape, with greener vegetation and refreshed ecosystems contributing to a unique safari experience. Tourism operators continue encouraging travel to the region, highlighting the important role visitor spending plays in supporting conservation, infrastructure recovery and local livelihoods linked to the park.
