KICC Chairman Sets Ambitious Goals to Transform Venue into a Premier Tourism Hub
Irungu Nyakera, the newly appointed chairman of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), has committed to transforming the facility into a premier destination for tourism and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) events. Appointed by President William Ruto for a three-year term, Nyakera succeeds Adelina Mwau and has expressed his determination to elevate KICC’s status on the global stage, with aspirations to rival top regional destinations such as Kigali and Cape Town.
During a familiarisation tour with KICC’s CEO, James Mwaura, Nyakera emphasised his plans to work closely with the board of directors and support other Kenyan cities in expanding their conference tourism capabilities. His vision for KICC is to drive economic growth by establishing it as a key player in the tourism sector. Nyakera brings valuable experience from his previous role as chairperson of the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA).
