Kenya To Chair United Nations Committee On Tourism

Kenya has been elected to chair the Committee on Tourism and Competitiveness at the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

In a statement issued on Thursday, January 25, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua revealed that Kenya beat countries renowned for tourism such as Malta  and Thailand to clinch the strategic seat.

Kenya is set to chair the position for three years at the organisation headquartered in Spain.

In her role, Kenya will be able to influence strategies and policies aimed at boosting trade across the globe.

“This is a historic moment and an important win for Kenya as it put us in a position of decision-making in matters that affect tourism across the globe. This vote demonstrates the confidence that UNWTO member states have in Kenya’s leadership and ability to steer the organization’s agenda on tourism competitiveness.
