Kenya launches national convention bureau to boost MICE competitiveness

Kenya has launched a national convention bureau following Cabinet approval this week, closing a long‑standing gap in the country’s meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions sector. Industry body AKBE welcomed the move as a strategic reset that should strengthen international bidding and destination marketing, an area where Kenya has lagged regional rivals such as Rwanda.

Stakeholders say delivery will hinge on embedding industry expertise in governance and securing subvention funding to support bids and event hosting – from venue costs to delegate support. With global business events rebounding, a functional bureau could help Kenya leverage its strong tourism brand, improving infrastructure and regional connectivity to attract high‑value conferences and drive wider economic returns.
