Kenya elected to UN Tourism Executive Council

Kenya has been elected to the UN Tourism Executive Council for 2025–2029, following a vote at the 26th UN Tourism General Assembly in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Tourism and Environment Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano announced the result, noting the Executive Council is the organisation’s second‑highest decision‑making body, giving Kenya greater influence over global tourism policy.

Alongside the council seat, Kenya will chair the Tourism and Competitiveness Committee, serve as Africa’s Regional Representative on the Tourism and Sustainability Committee, and sit on the Programme and Budget Committee. The appointments align with Kenya’s tourism recovery and diversification strategy, including a focus on sustainable investment and community‑based tourism. The Executive Council guides policy direction and oversees implementation of General Assembly resolutions, shaping the sector’s future priorities.
