Nairobi, Kenya- 11 September 2024

The Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA) confirms that operations at all major airports in Kenya have been severely disrupted this morning due to an unexpected industrial action by aviation workers.
Our inquiries with major airlines operating out of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and other airports reveal that flights have been grounded due to the unavailability of essential ground services.

As a result, both domestic and international flights are expected to be canceled or significantly delayed for an undetermined period. We strongly advise travel agents to promptly contact their clients and inform them of the ongoing situation before they proceed to the airport.

KATA will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide periodic updates as more information becomes available.

In the meantime, KATA urgently calls upon the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) and the Government to swiftly find a resolution to this standoff to alleviate the suffering of innocent passengers.

Please see below official statement.
